History of Simiane la Rotonde:
small historic town of interest
Simiane is a small provincial town perched upon the pointed rocky “ plateau d’Albion”, which was built as a step terraced way, dominated by the “ Rotonde” which was the dungeon of the AGOULT.SIMIANE castle ( XII century), one of the most interesting of “ Higher Provence “.
This “ Rotonde” has given its name and particularity to the village. It stands at 18 meters high and dominates all the lavender filled valley. It is also in the summer a theatre, and where you go to listen to classical concerts.
Crowning the old village are the most impressive houses from the XVI-XVII century. Its diamond lattice doors and hand sculptured lintels in stone are a wonder. The small streets in stone, an old covered hall and a church ( Sainte Victoire) from the end of the XVI century.
A walk in this village is a real wonder…
